The NT Government has just given the green light to Origin Energy’s plans to start fracking for gas in the NT’s Beetaloo Basin as early as September this year!

Despite wet season being just weeks away, this approval allows Origin to start fracking in the Beetaloo Basin at one of the riskiest times of the year. Heavy rainfall and the likelihood of flooding during the wet season means that the toxic waste water produced from fracking could enter streams, rivers and groundwater threatening the health of communities and country.  

Furthermore, Traditional Owners, Aboriginal people across the Beetaloo Basin region and the whole of the NT have told decision makers time and time again that frackers aren't welcome, but Origin Energy continue to ignore them. Aboriginal communities across the NT and beyond are calling for a brighter future, with sustainable industries that don’t wreck water and ignore the rights of Indigenous people.
